Postdoctoral Position Available in High-energy Underwater Neutrino Telescope

Nov 15, 2023

The Particle Astrophysics Division of the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral position in the Cosmic Ray Group. As the first scientific research group dedicated to cosmic rays in China, the Cosmic Ray Group has successfully led many major international experiments, including ARGO-YBJ and LHAASO.
The successful candidate will join the R&D work of HUNT, a next-generation neutrino telescope with an instrumented volume of to 30 km3. Its main physical goal is to search for neutrino sources with above five σ and to perform the full sky survey of high energy neutrinos, which will help us to identify the PeVatrons in our Galaxy and to understand the acceleration of PeV cosmic rays in the deep Universe.
The postdoc is expected to play a critical role in the detector R&D process, including detector simulation, software development, R&D of the detector components, and the prototype work in Baikal-GVD and the South China Sea. The postdoctoral position is for two years with an option to extend for a third year.
What You Need
1. Good oral and written communication skills;
2. Experience with data analysis tools typically used in particle physics or astronomy, or experience with detector R&D;
3. Publication record in high energy physics or astronomy
Education: Applicant must have a Ph.D. in high energy physics or astronomy within the last three years, or soon to be completed, and be under 35 years of age.
Note to Applicants:
In addition to applying online, applicants should submit a CV and a brief description of their research interests to Prof. CHEN Mingjun (mjchen@ihep.ac.cn). Questions may be directed to him. Reference letters will be requested at a later stage of the selection process. The annual gross salary is approximately 300K RMB.
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Where You Will Work
Beijing, China, and we also encourage the candidate to work in the beautiful city of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, where the Cosmic Ray Research Center of our group is located.
